More than 104,000 Americans have died in the last 12 -months period ending September 2021 due to opioid misuse.

The nation’s three largest drug distributors and a key pharmaceutical manufacturer have lately struck a deal on a $26 billion offer to settle thousands of civil claims related to the opioid disaster.

The first cheques could go out as early as coming April 2022.

The money will be used for addiction treatment and prevention for victims and survivors.

This comes at a time when rural America is struggling to combat the opioid predicament.

According to the 2020 National Survey on Drug Use and Health “40.3 million people aged 12 or older had a past-year substance use disorder.”

In accordance with the survey, four out of five Americans who need treatment for drug misuse do not get it.
