The Al Shabab group has over the past several days increased its attacks aimed at disrupting the conclusion of Somalia’s much-delayed electoral process.

The most recent attack is the March 23 twin suicide bombing in Beledweyne areas which killed at least 48 people and injured 108.

This attack came a few hours after the Mogadishu international airport attack by two gunmen.

Security analysts say the brutal attacks are part of Al Shabab’s attempt to prevent the elections from moving forward.

However, Ahmed Safiina, the spokesperson of the Federal Elections Indirect Team (FEIT) says election remain secure
despite the difficulties and violence.
