US climate envoy John Kerry holds talks with Chinese leaders in Shanghai Thursday in what analysts say would be an attempt to make climate change an area of closer collaboration amid deepening tensions between the two countries.
He is the first Biden Administration official to date to visit China. He arrived late Wednesday local time and will hold meetings on Thursday and Friday in Shanghai.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Wednesday, China’s special climate envoy, Xie Zhenhua, will meet with Kerry in Shanghai and the two will exchange views on COP 26.
