Pressing for protection

26 August, 2025

This week, the International Federation of Journalists, in coordination with Britain’s National Union of Journalists (NUJ), launched a 48-hour campaign of solidarity with Palestinian journalists in Gaza.

The initiative, which began on Monday, seeks to draw attention to the growing toll of media workers killed in the enclave and to call for stronger protections for journalists in conflict zones.

The campaign includes demands to end impunity for those targeting reporters and to guarantee safe access for journalists operating in war-torn areas. On Wednesday, a vigil will be held outside Downing Street, organised by the NUJ, with speeches from union leaders and foreign correspondents.

Among them is Wael Al-Dahdouh, Al Jazeera’s bureau chief in Gaza, who has become a prominent voice amid the conflict. The broadcaster is expected to cover the event.
