Persistent Exclusion Slovenia Faces UN Scrutiny Over Treatment of Roma

19 April, 2026

Amnesty International submitted a briefing to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination ahead of its 117th session (April 13th to May 1st, 2026), urging the body to press Slovenia on its failure to implement prior recommendations.

The submission focuses on the enduring exclusion of Roma communities from adequate housing and education, problems the Committee had previously flagged but which remain largely unaddressed.

Slovenia’s record on racial equality, it appears, has improved more on paper than in practice.

Amnesty International’s submission was timed to coincide with the Committee’s review of Slovenia, April 2026.
