An outbreak of dengue fever is overwhelming hospitals in Bangladesh’s capital.

More than 26,000 people have been hospitalised so far, the highest in two decades, and authorities in Dhaka are running out of beds.

The official death toll is around 100 since the start of the year, 28 this month alone.

Officials say the toll is likely far higher.

These are just the people who died in hospitals.

Some experts blame climate change.

Dengue fever is carried by mosquitoes, and their breeding has been fuelled by abnormally high rains, flooding and higher temperatures.

Malaria also is on the increase. Authorities also blame Dhaka’s ineffective prevention and publicity drives.
