Women’s march marks one month since 18-year-old student Debahni Escobar went missing near Monterrey.

Her remains were found 13 days later in a water tank at a roadside motel.

The Prosecutor’s Office in the state of Nuevo León has come under mounting public scrutiny for its handling of the case and has been forced to admit to committing serious mistakes in the investigation.

Escobar’s death sparked a nationwide outcry and protests in a country facing a spiraling femicide crisis which saw 1,000 women murdered last year because of their gender.

Amnesty International estimates that 11 women are killed each day in Mexico, and at least 20,000 women in the country are missing.
