Due to the rise in violent crime against women some groups have taken matters into their own hands and started developing their own safety initiatives.

A mother and daughter have created a “girls taxi”, offering safe rides to women by guaranteeing their driver is female and has passed a series of safety checks.

It follows the high-profile death of an 18-year-woman in April who was dropped on a remote road by a taxi driver and later found killed.
