A Government commission will report on the progress of an ongoing investigation into allegations of abuse at a shelter for homeless people, including a number of unaccompanied children.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission launched its probe following years of reports into alleged abuse, including an important investigation by Aljazeera English’s 101 East, titled ’South Korea’s House of Horrors.’ This told the stories of former residents at Brothers Home welfare centre, which operated during the 1970s and 80s in the southern city of Busan.

Many people say they were taken there against their will and were victims of a policy of getting rid of ‘undesirables’.

There were many cases of alleged abuse, rape and even killings.
