A year has passed, and there’s still no clarity on the fate of 40 Uyghur men who were sent from Thailand back to China. Human Rights Watch has issued serious warnings about the potential risks they face, including beatings and arbitrary imprisonment.

In yielding to pressure from China, Thailand has disregarded the principle of non-refoulement, which is designed to protect individuals from being returned to places where they might face torture or harm.

This violation undermines international agreements. Efforts to prompt the UN for oversight and visits have gone unanswered, leaving families in distress with no updates on their loved ones’ health or safety. Such actions heighten concerns not only for those directly involved but for other vulnerable groups as well.
