While rescue workers try to save 10 miners trapped inside a collapsed coal mine in the state of Coahuila, only a few
kilometers away other men risk their lives every day doing that same job.

There is a constant risk of mines collapsing due to flooding and methane gas explosions.

These mines, known as “pocitos” are vertical holes in the ground, that branch off into many different horizontal tunnels.

Many of these mines are illegal and workers can extract coal only for a few months since the area is already over-exploited.
