Farmers’ unions have called for a march to Delhi from various Indian states to protest against new legislation that they say could pave the way for the government to stop buying grain at guaranteed prices, leaving them at the mercy of private buyers.

The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) expects that farmers from all over India would be participating in this event although some neighbouring states ruled by the Prime Minister’s BJP party plan to block the farmers’ entry to Delhi.

Unlike the previous protests that took place in villages and small towns, the farmers will attempt to hit the streets of the capital Delhi this time.
