Anti-government protests continued to spread across Sri Lanka with protesters calling on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to step down.
Sri Lanka asked the IMF this week for emergency assistance but the IMF says Sri Lanka’s $51 billion external debt is “unsustainable” and for approval of an IMF-supported program, the country would require to restructure external debts.

The opposition in Sri Lanka is pushing for a constitutional amendment to clip the executive powers of the president.

An earlier amendment enhanced the executive powers of the President and weakened the powers of the Prime minister’s office and cabinet.
