Farmers’ Unions have called for a nationwide strike today, Tuesday, against the new farm laws.

Several trade unions including transport and banking unions have extended their support to farmers’ protest.

Section 144 which prohibits the gathering of more than 4 people has been imposed in some parts of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi’s neighbouring state of Haryana where the farmers’ stir has been gathering momentum has called a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation.

Several rounds of talks between the farmers and the Indian government have failed as the farmers continue to demand the withdrawal of the new farm laws.
