Security has been stepped up around mosques in Kabul following two deadly bombings ahead of the final Ashura mourning rites on Monday and Tuesday.

At least 20 people have been killed in the city in recent days and dozens wounded.

An offshoot of ISIL has claimed responsibility.

Taliban officials say more attacks targeting Ashura processions and mosques are likely.

More checkpoints have been set up and more guards have been sent to protect mosques.

Afghanistan is preparing to mark one year since the Taliban took power.

At the time it pledged to protect all Afghan citizens.

But a string of attacks since then has raised doubts about its ability to do so.
