Nearly a million Syrians were forced to abandon their homes in northern Hama and southern Idlib two years ago during a military assault by the Syrian and Russian governments. Human Rights groups have documented cases where the authorities unlawfully confiscated many homes and lands and gave them to government supporters. It’s not the first time the Syrian government is accused of seizing property as a way of punishing families in the opposition.
