Prominent Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin‘ono is due back on court today, Wednesday, and the court is expected to hand out its ruling after the court session was adjured both on Monday & Tuesday.
Hopewell Chin‘ono appeared in court for allegedly posting false claims on Twitter. He was arrested Friday, for the third time in six months, and spent the weekend in jail.
Chin‘ono is a high-profile critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, accusing his administration of corruption and human rights abuses. Before the latest arrest, he was out on bail on charges of inciting violence and on separate charges of contempt of court.
In the latest incident, Chin‘ono tweeted that police had beaten an infant to death last week while enforcing the Covid-19 lockdown. Police claim there was no assault and that the baby is still alive.
