The UN Security Council meets today to discuss key regional issues, including the sanctions on Yemen and the operations of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), a peacekeeping mission along the Sudan-South Sudan border.

The Council reviews the effectiveness of Yemen’s sanctions, aimed at halting the flow of weapons to warring factions and urging peace talks amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Also holds consultations on the situation in Abyei, where UNISFA has been working to maintain stability in a disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan.

Despite the peacekeeping force’s efforts, tensions and occasional violence persist in the region.
