More than 700,000 people have been impacted and thousands have fled heavy flooding in India’s north-eastern state of Assam.

According to the Times of India, at least 29 people have died.

Pre-monsoon rains have caused the Brahmaputra, one of the world’s largest rivers, to burst its banks, inundating more than 1,500 villages.

Landslides have cut off-road and rail links.

To evacuate the stranded residents the Indian Air Force deployed its helicopters.

Water has been receding now in many flood-affected areas after the weather situation improved.
