One person was killed and at least seven were missing on Saturday, officials said, as “unprecedented” rains triggered floods and landslides in Japan’s quake-hit region of Ishikawa, where authorities told tens of thousands to evacuate.

More than 120 millimeters per hour of rainfall was recorded in Wajima in the Noto region in the central Japan- the heaviest rain experienced in the area since records began.

The agency urged people to remain vigilant for landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and overflowing rivers in Tohoku and the Hokuriku region, including Noto, through Sunday.
