A new seven-day ceasefire between the warring parties is due to take place across Sudan.
Meeting in the Saudi port city of Jeddah, the Sudanese army, and the Rapid Support Forces signed off; mediated by the Saudis and the US.
The agreement is to pave the way for aid to come into Khartoum and other areas and states that there should be no air strikes or heavy artillery used during this time.
The movement of troops also violates the agreement.
Khartoum residents have described fierce battles with fighters roving the streets and little sign Sudan’s warring sides are respecting an agreement to protect civilians with ceasefire talks ongoing in Saudi Arabia, as of Sunday.
Fighting has rocked Khartoum and adjoining areas as well as Geneina in the Darfur region since the warring army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary force agreed on a “declaration of principles” last Thursday.
The conflict that broke out a month ago has killed hundreds of people, sent more than 200,000 into neighbouring states, displaced another 700,000 inside the country, and risks drawing in outside powers and destabilizing the region.
