National government report to be tabled in Parliament and put on their website, into the destruction of 46,000-year-old caves at the Juukan Gorge in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The traditional owners, the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura (PKKP), were among those to give a submission to the Senate Inquiry that had been examining the chain of events that led to the destruction of the site by miner, Rio Tinto.

The company’s lawyers warned traditional owners trying desperately to save the rock shelters that they could not speak publicly about the issue, the inquiry was told in October.

Rio had earlier told the inquiry that senior executives were not aware of the significance of the site until after the blasts.
