The US military has opened an army base in Texas for migrant children as the number of unaccompanied children and families crossing the border from Mexico increases. Up to 500 children were scheduled to arrive.

Journalists have been allowed inside the main border detention facility for migrant children at Donna in Texas, revealing a severely overcrowded tent structure where more than 4,100 people – including children and families – are crammed into a space intended for 250.
