President Donald Trump on Monday evening urged Iranian civilians to “immediately evacuate Tehran”, shortly before the White House announced he would depart the G7 summit early to “attend to many important matters.”

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, in an interview with ABC News, did not rule out targeting Iran’s supreme leader and dismissed reports suggesting Tehran is seeking a diplomatic off-ramp or looking to resume nuclear talks.

Tensions flared further after Iran launched multiple missiles toward Israeli territory in retaliation for attacks in Tehran earlier the same day. The Israeli army reported that 10 missiles were fired on Monday, all of which were intercepted. Shrapnel landed in northern Israel, but no casualties were reported in that instance.

Israel also intercepted a suspected aerial target entering from the east, the military said. Meanwhile, the U.S. embassy branch office in Tel Aviv closed after sustaining what the ambassador described as “minor damage” from overnight attacks. No U.S. personnel were harmed.

Since the beginning of hostilities, at least 23 people have been killed and more than 300 injured. Air raid sirens continued to sound across Israel as further missile barrages were reported. Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa were hit before dawn on Monday, with at least five fatalities. In response, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that Tehran’s residents would “pay the price, and soon.”

The Israeli army announced that Gaza has become a secondary front, with military focus now shifting toward Iran. Tens of thousands of reservists have been called up since Thursday night.
