Twelve years of conflict in Syria, coupled with the recent devastating earthquakes, have compounded the already dire humanitarian situation in the country, pushing it to the brink, according to a Save the Children report.

Entire neighbourhoods in northern Syria have been rendered uninhabitable, and collective shelters are more overcrowded than ever, it said.

The area worst affected by the earthquakes, which affected at least 8.8 million people in Syria, is home to some of the country’s most vulnerable people, who had already been forced to flee their homes multiple times due to the conflict and a crippling economic crisis.
