At least five people are feared dead after 20,000 Rohingya were forced to flee a huge fire that ripped through shanty homes at refugee camps in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar district. A police inspector says officers have heard that three children and two women died in the fire, but that police can’t put out any statement until bodies are recovered.
The fire was initially small and confined to a narrow strip, but spread to other camps after gas cylinders, used for cooking, exploded. Officials say the fire apparently started in one of the 34 camps and then spread to three others.
