Since August, schools across the Philippines have endured a significant disruption, losing nearly a month of valuable learning due to the relentless onslaught of weather-related crises.
A series of six powerful storms battered the country between late October and mid-November, triggering widespread devastation. Entire towns were inundated, while landslides buried roads and homes, leaving entire communities grappling with the aftermath.
In response to these challenges, the Department of Education has been working tirelessly to assist students in reclaiming lost time.
The department has introduced remote learning spaces, enabling children to continue their education despite the adverse circumstances. Additionally, efforts to hold makeup classes are being implemented, striving to bridge the gap created by weeks of missed lessons.
While the Philippine education system faces extraordinary hurdles, the resilience and determination of students and teachers alike shine through. Barnaby Lo reports from Agoncillo, where the spirit of perseverance continues to fuel the quest for educational recovery amidst ongoing challenges.
