The pandemic has worsened the already precarious situation of refugees and migrants from Central America trying to reach the US, trapping some in squalid camps or detention facilities and leaving others stranded by border closures.
This week U.S. Special Envoy for the Northern Triangle Ricardo Zuniga is visiting Guatemala and El Salvador to discuss efforts to address the root causes of migration from Central America.
As leaders search for solutions, violence, poverty, and a worsening climate crisis, continue to force Central Americans out of their homes by the
thousands.
