Around 8000 doctors who are on temporary contracts employed by the Malaysian Health Ministry will be on strike.
They have threatened mass resignation unless they are provided similar benefits as staff doctors or are hired as staff.
They are also demanding the govt reduce on-call and work hours for medical officers.
Malaysia’s public healthcare system consists of 41 percent contract medical workers.
Data from local media reports suggest most contract doctors end up working for pharmaceutical companies or take up non-medical jobs after their govt contracts end.
