The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suspended their national spokesperson, Nupur Sharma, over her controversial remarks on the Prophet Muhammad during a recent TV debate.
The party has also expelled Delhi BJP’s media in-charge Naveen Kumar Jindal from the primary membership of the party.
There’s been international criticism and anger after the comments were made.
Qatar and Kuwait summoned on Sunday India’s ambassadors to deliver official notes of protest over the comments.
Pakistan’s ministry of foreign affairs issued a statement condemning the “highly derogatory remarks” and the BJP’s response.“These totally unacceptable remarks have not only deeply hurt the sentiments of the people of Pakistan but of billions of Muslims around the world,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
