India/Farmers

Published on: 30 December, 2020

The Indian government has invited farmer unions for the next round of talks on Wednesday at 0830G.

Farmers continue to block three key highways into Delhi for the 35th consecutive day.

Farmer unions said that they found the contents of the invite “vague”, claiming the government was being clever with words and that the letter did not include the full agenda.

However, they have agreed to the resumption of talks that had broken down on December 9.

On Sunday, the unions also proposed an agenda for talks that include options for the repeal of three farm laws, making minimum support price into a legally guaranteed entitlement, not penalizing farmers for stubble burning, and changes in the proposed Electricity Amendment bill to protect farmers’ interests.
