ON June 20, 2022, the “Secretary-General of the United Nations urged the Security Council to extend the resolution that allows cross-border deliveries of lifesaving aid into north-west Syria for another 12 months, as speakers diverged over what form future assistance should take amidst unprecedented humanitarian need throughout the country.” https://www.un.org/press/en/2022/sc14937.doc.htm
This only aid corridor is up for extension by UN Security Council vote on or before July 10th.
Though the corridor has been extended in previous years, Russia has not yet said how it will vote on the resolution but has suggested that aid could reach the whole country via Damascus rather than via the UN.
Aid groups have sounded alarm at the possible closure – UN-coordinated aid once arrived in northern Syria via Turkey, Iraq and Jordan, but today only one crossing remains open.
