On Sunday, Hamas urged for the immediate commencement of negotiations regarding the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The movement confirmed that its delegation has been engaged in discussions with Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, the head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Agency, in Cairo. These talks are aimed at progressing the ceasefire terms and addressing the ongoing situation in Gaza.

In a statement released early on Sunday, Hamas emphasized the necessity of adhering to all terms of the existing agreement. The group called for the immediate opening of border crossings, allowing the entry of humanitarian aid without unnecessary restrictions or conditions. Hamas stressed that it is crucial for these steps to be implemented without delay in order to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Additionally, Hamas confirmed its approval of a technocratic government to manage Gaza until elections are held at all national Palestinian levels, including both legislative and presidential elections. This move is seen as a significant step toward stabilizing the region and ensuring a transitional governance structure until broader political processes can be finalized.

As the situation continues to evolve, Egypt’s role in facilitating these discussions remains central, and the international community watches closely to see how the second phase of the ceasefire deal will unfold.
