A report by UNESCO released on Thursday finds that glaciers in one-third of World Heritage Sites will disappear by 2050 due to climate change – under any temperature rise scenario and regardless of emissions reductions.
The rest can be saved by keeping global temperature rise below 1.5°C relatives to pre-industrial levels.
This includes all glaciers in Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite National Park, as well as the last remaining glaciers in Africa, Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro.
