Gaza: Hunger, Siege and Bloodshed

Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip claimed the lives of at least 54 Palestinians on Monday, according to medical officials. The bombardment comes amid an intensifying humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by a near-total blockade.
No aid has entered Gaza since March 2nd. Despite thousands of trucks laden with desperately needed supplies idling at the border, Israel’s continued restrictions have brought the territory perilously close to famine. This blockade—one of the longest in the Strip’s history—has triggered a surge in malnutrition, disease and other preventable conditions.
At least 57 people, most of them children, have died of malnutrition, Palestinian health authorities report. UNICEF warns that the situation for children is rapidly deteriorating, with starvation, illness and death becoming grimly routine due to the lack of access to food, clean water and medicine.
Medical supplies are critically low: 43% of essential medicines are entirely out of stock, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
Meanwhile, ten Palestinian detainees were released by the Israeli military on Monday. They were transported to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah for medical evaluation upon release.
