Six people will sue the Fukushima nuclear plant operator over thyroid cancer.
A group of six young men and women will file a class action suit against Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) claiming that they developed thyroid cancer due to exposure to radiation emanating from the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and demand the utility pay about $5.4 million in compensation.
The nuclear site was hit by the earthquake and tsunami in 2011, causing a triple meltdown.
It was the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl in 1986.
An exclusion zone remains in place around the site.
