Belarus Olympic sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya is due to arrive in Warsaw Wednesday after Poland granted her a humanitarian visa on Mondy.
The move comes after she criticised how Belarussian officials were managing the team at the Olympics, claiming she was entered into the 4×400 relay even though she has never raced in the event.
This set off a backlash in state-run media back home, where authorities relentlessly crackdown on government critics.
The runner was then apparently hustled to the airport but refused to board a flight for Istanbul and instead approached police for help.
