The first shipment of wheat from India to Afghanistan is due to arrive on Tuesday (by road, via Pakistan), as part of an
agreement between India and the UN’s World Food Programme to assist the people of Afghanistan.
Pakistan and India have cleared all bureaucratic hurdles for the trucks with 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to travel from India’s Punjab state to Afghanistan, via Pakistan’s Wagah border crossing.
Usually, Pakistan doesn’t allow two-way trade between India and Afghanistan.
However, the green light has been given on this one-off occasion due to the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
