An UN-convened international conference on Afghanistan is to be held Monday night & Tuesday at the Sharq Hotel in Doha.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will chair the meeting.
Twenty-two key regional and international nations will be represented – all at the Special Envoy level.
The options being discussed will be wide-ranging: from further isolation of the Taliban – to formal international recognition. This is seen as a key meeting for the international community to define its position on Afghanistan.
US, Russian, Iranian, and Pakistan representatives will be there, as well as some European country delegations.
Taliban was not invited.
Spokesman Balkhi told Aljqweerq that any meeting about Afghanistan without the participation of the Afghan government is ineffective:
The meeting comes days before the UN will make a decision about its operation in the country.
It has set for May 5th to review its humanitarian stance.
