At least 88 individuals have lost their lives in a series of Israeli airstrikes across northern Gaza, carried out during the night between Wednesday and Thursday. The strikes have intensified the already dire situation in the region, with civilian casualties mounting by the hour.
On Thursday morning, 66 people were killed in an air raid that struck residential buildings near Kamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahia, located in northern Gaza. These homes, which had become makeshift shelters for families fleeing the conflict, were hit with devastating force, resulting in widespread destruction. Kamal Adwan Hospital, which remains one of the few operational medical facilities in northern Gaza, has been heavily affected by the ongoing bombardment. At the time of the strike, the hospital was treating at least 85 patients, many of whom were women and children, making the attack on this facility all the more tragic. This hospital has borne the brunt of repeated airstrikes in recent days, complicating efforts to provide medical care to the wounded.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, a separate Israeli airstrike targeted a house in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, killing at least 22 people. This attack is part of a broader wave of strikes that has claimed the lives of 40 individuals across Gaza since the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to medical sources, 23 of these casualties were in the northern Gaza Strip, which has seen some of the heaviest fighting.
In the southern part of the Gaza Strip, an airstrike on the Al Mawasi area west of Khan Yunis on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of seven people and left several others injured. As the violence spreads throughout the region, the number of casualties continues to rise, overwhelming Gaza’s already stretched medical resources.
The relentless bombardment of northern Gaza has particularly affected vital infrastructure, including Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last remaining facility providing essential medical care in the northern part of the strip. The hospital’s director confirmed that the facility had been targeted for the second day in a row by Israeli forces on Wednesday, further complicating the provision of life-saving treatments. In a statement, he revealed the dire situation for both patients and medical staff, who are struggling to continue their work under constant threat of airstrikes.
In addition to the civilian toll, journalists are also facing grave dangers. On Wednesday morning, AJ Mubasher correspondent Hossam Shabat and his cameraman were injured in an Israeli airstrike while reporting from the site of a previous attack in the northern Gaza neighborhood of Al Sabra. This earlier strike had claimed the life of a Civil Defense worker, illustrating the increasing risks faced by those trying to report the realities of the conflict.
As the death toll continues to climb, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens. Hospitals are overwhelmed, vital infrastructure has been destroyed, and civilian casualties mount as airstrikes show no sign of abating. The international community is under growing pressure to intervene, as the situation in Gaza grows ever more dire, with civilians trapped amidst relentless violence.
