The World Bank reported on October 14 that the poorest countries are becoming increasingly impoverished.
The twenty-six nations classified as the poorest, which are home to 40% of the world’s most destitute people, are experiencing their highest levels of debt since 2006.
These countries are also more vulnerable to natural disasters and financial shocks.
Afghanistan is among them; since the Taliban takeover, a lack of government funding has resulted in widespread electricity outages affecting hospitals, schools, and businesses.
The situation is particularly dire in rural areas, where access to resources is already limited.
However, there is some hope for improvement through renewable energy initiatives.
