Sudan fighting

Published on: 7 May, 2023

Saudi foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan said in a tweet he hoped both sides would “engage in dialogue that we hope will lead to the end of the conflict”.

The Sudanese Army has sent a delegation to Saudi Arabia for talks on a humanitarian truce.

Three weeks into the conflict the fighting continues.

Arab League is holding a meeting to discuss the situation in Sudan.

But the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group has yet to confirm whether it’s taking part.

The latest week-long ceasefire is having little impact on the ground, with Khartoum residents trapped in their homes
reporting heavy gunfire.

The army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces are still on the streets and thousands are still trying to leave Sudan,
to nearby countries.

The U.S. and Saudi governments have put out a joint written statement, saying they welcome the start of pre-negotiation talks between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in Jeddah on Saturday.

They also urge continued international aid and support.
