Schools reopened in Sri Lanka this week with students at government schools allowed to attend physical classes 3 days a week.
The government has promised petrol to schools to transport students but many schools have struggled to get fuel.
Teachers’ unions say the reopening of in-person classes is premature as many rural areas are still struggling with the fuel crisis and are not equipped with internet connectivity.
Fresh supplies of fuel arrived last week, and a rationing method is being used to distribute fuel.
But long queues continue outside the fuel stations.
Petrol and diesel have been in short supply for months after the government ran out of foreign currency to pay for imports.
