On Monday, May 23, 2022, Zimbabwe hosts a conference dedicated to elephants.
This conference serves as an effort to come up with a common position in terms of wildlife conservation, particularly elephant management.
“Speaking ahead of the summit, Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry deputy minister Barbra Rwodzi said African countries should speak with one voice and protect their trade interests.”https://www.zimparks.org.zw/2022/05/08/7508/
“We are going to have an elephant summit and we have invited 14 countries that will be represented by their ministers of environment and climate,” Rwodzi said. https://www.zimparks.org.zw/2022/05/08/7508/
Representatives of 14 Southern African states are participating in this event which takes place in Hwange.
It is the first time such a meeting is held by African countries without Western organisations, to evaluate the successes and failures.
Particular attention will be given to the ivory trade.
The conference will end on May 23, 2022.
