WHO Urges Protection of Civilians and Healthcare Amid Middle Eastern Tensions
In the wake of escalating regional conflict following Israeli-U.S. military actions targeting Iran over the weekend, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a critical call for the protection of civilians and healthcare facilities in the Middle East.
Hanan Balkhy, the organization’s regional dietitian, emphasized the need for safeguarding these vulnerable groups through a post on social media, stating, “The protection of civilians and health care must be absolute.”
The WHO’s plea underscores a growing concern as the situation intensifies. Balkhy further urged all parties involved in the conflict to ensure that medical facilities remain secure, highlighting the essential role these institutions play in providing care to those caught in the crossfire.
As the humanitarian crisis threatens to escalate, the call for adherence to international norms protecting civilians becomes increasingly urgent.
