The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued a stark warning about the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where prolonged conflict and infrastructure collapse have brought the region to the brink of catastrophe. According to the agency, only 40% of drinking water production facilities remain operational, severely limiting access to safe water for over two million people, nearly half of whom are children.

This dire situation exacerbates the already acute risk of famine sweeping across the enclave. International aid agencies report that the entire population of Gaza is facing severe food insecurity, with famine conditions either imminent or already unfolding in some areas. Damage to sanitation systems and the limited availability of clean water have increased the spread of disease, further compounding the crisis.

UNICEF and other humanitarian organizations continue to call for sustained and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid, including fuel, medical supplies, and equipment necessary to restore water and sanitation services. Without immediate intervention, they warn, the consequences for public health and survival will be devastating and irreversible.
