Congolese Health Minister Roger Kamba stated that the country is on high alert after an unknown disease killed at least 74 people.

The disease, “of still unknown origin,” was reported in the Panzi area of Kwango province (southwest) and has been classified as an “epidemic.” It has affected 382 people, who have presented symptoms similar to the flu, according to the minister.

Public health officials from the Africa CDC said they had collected samples and would know more later in the week.
