UN Security Council Members Push for Vote on Gaza Ceasefire Resolution
Published on: 4 June, 2025

The ten elected members of the UN Security Council have called for a vote on a draft resolution demanding an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza” to be observed by all parties.
The proposed text also calls for the release of all hostages and the immediate lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid. It urges the safe, large-scale, and unhindered distribution of assistance throughout the Gaza Strip, including operations led by the United Nations.
For the resolution to pass, it must receive at least nine votes in favour and avoid a veto from any of the five permanent members: the United States, Russia, China, Britain or France.
