The United Nations has declared itself ready and able to deliver life-saving aid to Gaza, but alleges it is being obstructed by Israel—claims that Israel denies. During a Security Council briefing on Wednesday, the UN received the backing of numerous member states, as the dire conditions on the ground were brought into sharp focus.

At one point, Palestine’s ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, was overcome with emotion as he reminded the Security Council that dozens of children are dying every day in Gaza.
