UN General Assembly Set to Vote on Spain-Led Gaza Ceasefire Resolution

Al Jazeera has obtained the final draft of a General Assembly resolution on Gaza, spearheaded by Spain. The document is now being circulated among member states and is expected to be posted on the UN website on Tuesday.
The seven-page resolution, titled “Protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations,” contains 21 operative paragraphs and calls for an immediate ceasefire. Notably, paragraph 10 urges all member states to take collective or individual action to ensure Israel complies with international law.
The resolution also condemns the use of starvation as a weapon of war and calls on Israel, as the occupying power, to allow humanitarian aid in coordination with the UN.
A vote is anticipated on Thursday, 12 June, during an emergency General Assembly session. Unlike in the Security Council, the United States cannot veto such a resolution.
